Hi all you Redwood Riders,

Hope your summer is going great and that you are all getting a lot of riding in. Remember, we need your help at State Show even if you’re not coming for the week to ride. It’s only in Hollister, an easy 1½ hour drive from Boulder Creek. Our event (Speed Barrels) happens on Tuesday, July 29th, but we also need people on Saturday, the 26th. We have to start our event at 8am. Please contact Rebekah (crills@cruzers.com - 338-9831) if you think you could come down and help.

Our most recent show was a great success. Thanks to all of you who came out. The weather was really nice, but the people were better. A big hearty welcome to Kristi Eifert, Dave Lawson and Caprice Tennefoss. Thank you for your generous donations to the D9 raffle. Welcome to the D9 family - we hope you come back. Of course, we appreciate all out regular and semi regular participants as well. Without you, there wouldn’t be a district!

Kristin Praly put together an outstanding raffle (with your donations, of course. Keep them coming!) as well as working the computer for the afternoon. Our printer was being tempermental, but at least we had electricity this month! Thanks to our fill-in announcer, Kathleen Anzlone. You more than filled Christina’s shoes, although we’re looking forward to having her back at the end of June. We heard that her vacation wasn’t nearly as fun as a gymkhana!!

We’re also looking forward to having Jan Brandon and her famous snack shack back. While we like food from home, it so much nicer to not have to worry about it. A big thank you to everyone who helped in the booth as well as in the arena. The gate people were fantastic. It was amazing how much faster the show went when the riders were encouraged to enter the arena while the previous rider was coming out. Riders, let’s keep that up.

Chris Rice (Stone West) donated her time to make some custom stall plaques for our high point winners. The winners got to choose from several designs and fonts and Chris will deliver them at our June show. Chris also donated some wonderful prizes for our raffle. Thanks Chris!

Congratulations to our High Point Winners:

Open Pony: Emily Hogye, Reserve: Katelyn Praly

FC Horse 10 & Under: April Martin-Hansen, Reserve: Amanda McDonald

FC Horse 11 & Over: Brigette Berrnhart, Reserve: Selena Friedman

A Horse: Sara Castagnetto, Reserve: Chris Rice

AA Horse: Rachel Crill, Reserve: Bonnie Sullivan

AAA Horse: Marietta Sullivan, Caitlyn Sullivan

Our HAT RACE was a lot of fun, although now I’m thinking we should have saved it for our HAT SHOW on the last weekend of June sponsored by Head N Home Hats, our old friends Gary and Merry Lee Watrous. (I didn’t mean old as in “old”, just “old” as in we don’t see them much anymore and we’re thrilled they still support District 9!). It’s always a challenge to do something new and moving hats from pole to pole or barrel to barrel was definitely an exercise in patience! Congratulations to Rachel Crill who very generously gave her prize (a very nice horsemens knife) to our second place winner, Sue Duggan.

By the time you get this newsletter, we hope you’ll be getting ready for our July 20th show. Yes, it will probably be hot! Bring shade, water and misters!!!

See You Then!!!
