District 9 Redwood Riders Christina Castagnetto, scribe slpmomtoo@sbcglobal.net
As I sit here watching the news about deep snow covering most of the country, I feel guilty complaining about the recent scattered rain that has caused mud to start creeping inside the floorboards of my truck….
January was a beautiful month and allowed us to have a wonderful end-of-year awards banquet. Our hats go off to Mary Sullivan putting on the deal. She makes a turkey even Martha would be envious of! Heartfelt thanks go to the outgoing D9 board members for all of their planning and assistance with the party needs. By the looks of the the party hall, one would think they spared no expense!
A special thank you (which those words alone aren’t enough), goes to MerryLee Waltrous. For years, D9 was her blood, sweat and tears. With her preservative spirit, she has kept this district alive and well. It is our sincerest appreciation for all that you have done. Besides all of the other things she has done, she has even designed the new logo on the D9 sweatshirts (of which we have several available for sale). Merrylee, we will see you at the shows. You get the “get out of helping free “card for the rest of your rides with D9!
The Year End Awards were presented to the following riders. Their hard work and great riding was the reason many of us came to watch the shows. We congratulate you and look forward to seeing you this next year. Madison Allen, Sheri Benkosky, Tania Feduk, Robin Brandon, Camisa Composti, Wyatt Composti, Rachel Crill, Emily Hogye, Natalie McCollom, Kassidy Miller, Katelyn Praly, Kristian Schenk, Breanna Shirk, Mary Sullivan, Kori Taylor, Wendy Taylor, Lizabeth Workman and MerryLee Watrous.
Now for new business—the incoming D9 board has some new faces: President: Rebekah Crill, Secretary: Bonnie Sullivan, Treasurer: Bob Fultz, Scribe: Christina Castagnetto, Awards: Paulette Faber/Jan Brandon, Equipment Manager: Brian Smart, Raffle Queen: Kristine Praly, Website Guru: Sebastian Praly
We will be running shows at a few different venues. We are focusing our shows north of Santa Cruz, with shows at Eddy Ranch in Boulder Creek, Coast Stables in Santa Cruz, and Graham Hill Showgrounds which is located between Santa Cruz and Felton.
Thanks again to everyone that made last year a success. Thank you, Tammy Pigao, Arlene Tsuji, Bill Sagertey, and Gary Watrous for working in the hot sun judging. Thank you Paul and Sandy Tantau for allowing us to run shows at Royal Oaks, Mr. and Mrs. Eddy for letting us stomp around at Eddy Ranch yet another year. Thanks to Deb West providing the delicious treats at the snack shack (I heard a rumor you might still be coming?) Thanks to all of the high point sponsors, persons that provided raffle prizes, arena workers, riders and even those parents and friends that helped with trailering and lead lining those kids in the arena. (If I have forgotten anyone, it certainly was an accident!). Without everyone’s help, Gymkhana wouldn’t be what it is. Last but not least, thank you to the outgoing D9 board; we appreciate all of your efforts. If horses don’t work out---I bet you would have a future in party planning.
Hope to see you all soon! Christina Castagnetto
